Evil Dead Movie Story

In a remote cabin, a girl is tied up in the cellar while an old woman chants from a strange book in Welsh. The girl reveals she’s possessed, so her dad sets her on fire. Later, David and his girlfriend Natalie, along with their dog Grandpa, arrive at the cabin. They’re joined by David’s sister Mia and friends Eric and Olivia. They plan to help Mia quit heroin. Mia starts having withdrawal symptoms. David finds a creepy cellar with a book called Naturom Demonto. Eric reads from the book, unleashing evil. Mia sees a demonic version of herself. She tries to leave but crashes. Evil vines trap her, and she gets possessed. Grandpa is killed, and Mia hurts herself. Mia, possessed, attacks them. They try to purify her but things go wrong. Natalie’s possessed and David tries to stop her, but they all die. With five souls claimed, an abomination attacks. Mia fights back, losing her hand but defeating the abomination. An older Ash Williams appears in a post-credits scene.

Evil Dead Movie Review

The 2013 Evil Dead reboot surprised many by ditching the humor of the original films for serious horror. Despite its success, it didn’t immediately lead to more sequels. Now, a decade later, with many old franchises being revived, Evil Dead Rise joins the trend. Originally planned for streaming, it’s now getting a theatrical release, which feels fitting for its quality. Irish writer-director Lee Cronin, known for his film The Hole in the Ground, steps up to helm this installment. While it may not have the same impact as the last film, it’s still a solid addition to the series. This time, Cronin focuses on a family facing demonic horror unleashed by an earthquake. The story starts with a nod to the classic cabin-in-the-woods setup but then shifts to an LA apartment building. Visually, the film is impressive, but it lacks some suspense. The violence is plentiful, but it doesn’t always feel grounded in reality. While touching on themes of motherhood, it feels somewhat obligatory. Overall, Evil Dead Rise is a decent horror movie, but it may not leave audiences craving more.

Evil Dead Movie Rating

According to Rotten Tomatoes, the movie has a rating of 63% based on 205 reviews, with an average score of 6.2/10. Critics say that while it might not have the same funny tone as the original, the new Evil Dead makes up for it with scary moments, lots of blood, and intense violence. On Metacritic, it got a score of 57 out of 100, based on 38 critics’ reviews, suggesting mixed or average opinions. Audience members who were surveyed by CinemaScore gave it a “C+” grade, on a scale from A+ to F.
