In New York City, John Wick mourns his wife Helen’s death. She had given him a beagle puppy to help him cope. A group of Russian gangsters led by Iosef Tarasov, tries to buy John’s prized car, but he refuses. They later break into his home, beat him up, kill the puppy, and steal the car. Iosef is the son of Viggo Tarasov, a powerful mob boss. Learning of his son’s actions, Viggo reveals John’s past as a deadly hitman known as the Baba Yaga. John retrieves his hidden stash of weapons and gold coins from his past. He rejects Viggo’s apology and kills the hit squad sent after him. Viggo puts a $2 million bounty on John’s head. John seeks refuge at the Continental, a neutral ground for criminals. He learns that Iosef is at a nightclub called Red Circle and confronts him there. In a series of events, John faces off against Viggo’s men, including a hitwoman named Ms. Perkins. With the help of his friend Marcus, John fights back, leading to a showdown at a church. He kills Iosef and confronts Viggo, who reveals Marcus’s betrayal. John eventually defeats Viggo and heads home to heal his wounds, adopting a new puppy along the way.
